The power of sleep

 The psychological & physiological effects of sleep 


This research was carried out to briefly explain the benefits of adequate sleep and disadvantages of lake of proper sleep, it summarizes to the length of course study the benefits of quality sleep and relaxation of the body, also details the consequences of lack of adequate sleep and its effect on the bodily function.


Firstly these are some consequences of deficient sleep 


1. Sleeping less than six hours a night weaken the immune system.


2. Inadequate sleep causes disruption of the blood sugar hereby increasing the level resulting in hyperglycemia.


3. Sleeping less than required increases the likelihood of coronary artery disorders e.g blockage and brittle 

Setting a path for cardiovascular disease, stroke, congestive heart failure. 


4. Sleep disruption further contributes to all major psychological disorders such as ; depressive disorder, Anxiety disorders, stress related disorders.

“ A ruffled mind makes a restless pillow “

The center for disease control declares

Insufficient sleep as a PUBLIC HEALTH EPIDEMIC 


Countries where sleep time has declined such as the US, UK, JAPAN and SOUTH KOREA are suffering the greatest rates of physical and mental disorders, contributing to a generic disorder that start with a progressive insomnia resulting to declination of Basic brain and body functions.


The benefits of sleep cannot be entirely stated but for reason of this article a few would be listed 


1. Proper sleep promotes our well being and survival as a species.


2. Sleep enriches a diversity of functions including noesis.


3. It aids the ability to memorize and make logical decision benevolently contributing to our psychological health.


4. Sleep recalibrate our emotional brain circuit allowing us to navigate next day and social psychological challenges with unified composure.


5. Sleep reforms the body metabolic state by time tuning the balance of insulin and circulating glucose, it further regulates appetite also helping the body control body weight through healthy diet intake and selection.

     “Sleep as the relaxation of the physical body regulating the metabolic physiological system and controlling the psychological system of the conscious and the sub-conscious state of Man”.
